It Took A Village

This weekend I did not have to work out of town and I have really taken advantage of staying home. I knew I wanted to get some work done because next three weekends are going to be busy. One thing I wanted to to this weekend was put up all the produce we were given this week by friends and neighbors.

I went to church last week and a dear friend brought us a bag of peppers from her garden. My husband and son can't get food hot enough so this was the perfect gift for them! The next day my neighbor came over and gave us more peppers and said this was the last batch from his garden. Yummy!!!

The next day another neighbor was cooking for a large group and had some left over supplies and wanted to know if we would like them. Free produce? Sure!! There were also three gallon size zip lock bags with potatoes sliced and ready to eat (using that for potato soup next week).

Combined with some produce that we had that was going bad I began to think what could I make? Then it came to me........

SALAS!!!

and let me just say...it is so goooooddddd!!!
It took a village to create this batch of salsa and we are truly greatful for your kindness!
Thank you to all our friends, enjoy your salsa!
Go here to make your own batch!
So, how did you spend your Saturday? I hope it was as relaxing as my day has been.

A Gift In The Mail

Do you have a sister? I told my husband its a good thing God chose to just gave us two boys because if I had a girl I would want to keep having babies until God gave us another girl because every girl needs a sister. I am blessed to have two sisters. Although it was no popular for my parents to have six children I am so thankful that despite the criticisms they had a large family. I look back over my childhood and during the toughest of times my sisters and brothers were the ones standing there with me. Today a package arrived in the mail and when I opened it there were 5 little blue boxes with my favorite slow-cooker liners inside!!

I was like a girl in a shoe store! I was so excited and started thinking about what to cook next! But do you know what? Its not just the liners that made me so excited as much as it was knowing my sister, as busy as she is, thought about me as she was in the store shopping. I miss having my sisters live near me and I miss the times we spent together as kids. We live about 1000 miles apart and our time together is very limited. Despite that, they are my best friends and I feel blessed that my parents did not stop with just one daughter but they had three! Thank you sissy for the gift and for thinking about me. Thank you both for being my best friends.

Fall Is In The Air

Our boys have a tradition, the first week of fall weather they get out the tent, set it up in the back yard and "camp" for a week or two (yes a week or two). Now let me just say they about empty their room (video games and all) and put in the tent! Its become a fun tradition they really enjoy. They spend the days outside laughing, playing and being boys.
Even though fall is in the air, the flowers in the yard are still in bloom and looking beautiful!
Grandpa decided the boys needed to have the outside of the tent decorated so he got out the fall decorations and helped them set up camp!

They're looking forward to having their cousins over tomorrow to spend the night and have a cookout, complete with hot dogs and smores. We love fall in our house and we work hard to take time to enjoy each day. I enjoyed listening to them laugh and make 100 trips in and out of the house getting supplies. They even ate their lunch and dinner outside today. My Dad always reminds me to enjoy the noise, enjoy the mess, enjoy the moments because one day soon they will be gone. So this little inconvience is just part of building great family memories.
Take time today to enjoy your children, build some memories they will cherish for years to come.

Love My Coupon Binder!

Its the first of the month so time to print new coupons!!! I've been so busy the past two weeks working out of town that I have fallen behind in clipping my coupons. This weekend I get to stay home so its time to restock my coupon binder so I can plan a shopping trip. First step is to clean out the old and file the new! I had several coupons that were expired so I took about 15 minutes to pull them out and take them to the burn pile. It always feel good to organize, even if its just my binder!

Because I've been busy the past few weeks I did not have a chance to clip my coupons so I just put them in a file folder (note to self, get a cuter folder!) and saved them to be clipped later. My boys would be happy to help me clip but I like to do it so I have a mental note of what coupons I have. I see them when I clip them then again when I file so I get to see them two or three times before going into the binder. This really helps put them in my memory bank.

Wow! So much better and ready to file!

Got to love progress! I've got to get a cuter folder!!
ahhhh, filed and ready for my shopping trip!
If you would like to read about my binder go here
It saves me a ton of money every week!
Go here and here to print coupons and save for your family too!
I would love to hear about the deals you find this week!
Stay tuned for my Deal of the Day!
Happy Shopping!

Taking A Time Out

It seems like our lives are so busy these days with a to-do list that's longer then my arm. I often have to stop and remind myself to slow down and enjoy the things around me. I'm always reminding myself its the little things that matter to my family. Yes, getting things accomplished is important but not at the expense of ignoring my family.
Our boys love to skateboard and they love for us to come outside and watch them. Since my husband is now working late each evening I've been making more of an effort to go out and do nothing but sit and watch and okay be a cheerleader for them.
This past evening our youngest (our daredevil) fell and hurt his leg. When we came in I said, "Why don't you get in the shower (which was followed my moaning and the wonderful words Mommmm) then those words of moaning ceased when I followed up with, "While you're in the shower, I'll make a batch of brownies!" Then it was "REALLY!! You're the best Mom ever (followed by a big hug)!!! Then all the shower blues vanished and life was happy again, the shower did have to wait until he cracked the eggs for me, since that;s his favorite part of cooking!
We work hard on communication with the boys and times like this encourages them talk and talk and talk. I often find out things that I did not know and hear about dreams and goals I did not know they were considering. Take time today to do something special with your children. You'll be surprised what you might learn.
