A Girl Among Men

After going to the ladies retreat I came home to a decorated house!
Our youngest could not wait to turn the fan on!!
How do you know you're in a house full of men when everything around you is pink?
The decorations are hung up with DUCK TAPE!!! LOL!!!
Got to love being a Girl among Men!

Laughter is Good Medicine

This weekend it was my birthday! Can you believe I get to have another 39th birthday? Yep! All year last year I thought I was 39! Then a few months ago someone said 2011 in a conversation and I thought....wait a minute 2011, I'm not going to be 40 this year I'm going to be 39!! I had a good laugh that I get another 39th birthday!!! Not only was it my birthday weekend but it was the weekend of our ladies retreat which I look forward to each year!

You know how you are with your girlfriends at a ladies retreat? You stay up to late laughing and being a girl! This year they had a surprise birthday party for me so of course we ate, stayed up to late, laughed and enjoyed leaving all the cares of the world for just a little bit and became girls! It was great!!!

The next morning when waking up of course you're tired! Its a good tired and waking up with a renewed spirit and focus is a wonderful way to wake up. It was a beautiful morning in the mid 60's so we had the front door open. As I sat down to put my make-up on God gave me a good laugh in the form a little visitor!
This little guy came to greet me! Not only did he greet me but he kept trying to come in and join me! As my sister and I sat at the table he kept watching us I'm sure waiting on something to eat. He would put one foot in the door and all I had to say was "No, No!" and he would step out. Then a few minutes would go by and he would put one foot in the door and again I would say "No!" He would turn around, make a circle on the porch and come right back. He stayed there the whole time I was getting ready and the two of us had a nice little conversation!
After I finished getting ready he walked me to the van as I packed. Then he came back to the condo and waited for me to come out again. After getting in the van and going to the main building for our meeting my heart was blessed at the little giggle I had as I enjoyed God's creation. Little did I know my friend followed me! As I was sitting in the meeting I was sitting near a glass door and who but my little friend was standing next to the glass door as if he too wanted to attend the meeting!

Sometimes I think God has a sense of humor if we just take time to look for it in our day! Today my heart is overflowing with His goodness towards me and I am truly blessed at His love for me. I count it all joy.

Kirkland's Love!!

I'm so excited Kirklands is back in town!!! I feel like the lady who walked in the store right after me. She walked in with her friend and they both started talking and one raised her hands and made an ahhhh sound that sounded like something from the Sound of Music then she said; "I hear angels singing!!!" She was extremely excited!!! The store was humming with ladies talking and giggling and one lady running from department to department!!! Mark looked at me and said;
"Your smiling, do you hear angels too?" I so did!!

While we were out shopping for his office we also enjoyed seeing all the goodies that matched the coloring of our house. Mark loved this chair and he could not believe I had my camera with me! He had a good laugh at me snapping photos in the store!

He loved the leather I love this one!! Oh, it would look so good in my living room!!! DREAMING....

Learning Something New - French or Cuban?

Today when I went to get some French bread for Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches the deli manager was so helpful and asked do you want French or Cuban? I had no idea, I just always get French so I asked the question; "What is the difference?" She informed me French is made with sugar and oil and Cuban is not! Wow! I did not know that! I took one of each so I could taste the difference! I could not tell much of a difference so its Cuban from now on! Did you know that? I learned something new today!

He Loves Me

I knew it wouldn't take long to fill my new little green vase, but I did not know it would happen so fast! Remember when I told you it was going to be used for Mommy flowers from the yard? Well....

when my Honey came home today he brought me these beauties! He said; "I thought of you when I saw the pink daisy!" Okay, now everyone say awwwww!!! I sure did!
Isn't she beautiful! I love her and I knew just where she was going....in a special spot so she could shine!
It only took an hour and she was filled and smiling with pride!

Then she found a special place to rest so she could bring a smile to my face every time I see her!

Thank you Honey for making me feel special yet again! I'm truly blessed!!!

Great Thrift Shop Day

I've been so busy the past few weeks and I've been in thrift shop withdrawal. Today was fun day in our house so we went swimming at my brothers house in their beautiful pool, had a picnic and then hit the thrift store! I planned to go to two but we found so many treasures, one store was enough excitement for the day!

My honey and I have wanting to get my Dad a real butterfly collections for about a year. We've seen them in the mall and at the market downtown but one this size was about $75. We just did not think it wise to spend that much money.....but today.

was Grandpa's day because this beauty was on a shelf for just $3.99!!! When we saw it the boys and I both gasped!! We were so excited and when I saw the price I knew it was coming home with us and that Grandpa was going to love it...and he did!!!

I love this laundry hamper! My son looked at it and said; "Mom you know it has a stain on it?" I was so excited because its going to fit perfectly in my room! I can't wait to show you what I'm going to do with her. She has great bones and is quite heavy and for just .99 cents I could not leave her alone!

Isn't this pretty! I've been waiting one to layer on my table. She is going to get a good spray paint and glazing to bring out some great details. I can't wait to put her on my table and show her off!

Look at the details! Its going to be so pretty when she is redone!!!
The $1.99 price tag was perfect!

Aren't these cute!!! Can't you just see a candle in the clear one and the little green one I just LOVE! Its going to be a great home to all those Mommy flowers I get from the yard.
It was marked down to just .25 cents

I've been waiting one of these for a long time! I love to use it for scrapbook and school! It was a great deal at just $3.99. Its razor sharp and ready for a some great projects!!

This little guy is going to be so cute after a good coat of paint! I think he is just too cute and for just .99 cents he begged me to bring him home! It did not take to much begging!!

and now for my favorite item of the day.......

These heavy duty beauties were a steal!!! I got both for just $12.99!!!
There going to get a good makeover too.
I can't wait to show them to you again.

It was a great day! I spent $30.50 total including a large bucket of Lego's and a bag of 8 decks of trick cards and card cases for our oldest son! He totaled that bag up and it was worth about $25 so we had a great day! Now, I've got to get busy on some projects....

Treasure Store

When our oldest was little we loved going to the thrift shop and one day he asked if we could go to the "Treasure Store" so now we have Treasure Store day at out house. A few times a month we load up and head to the "Treasure Store!" We love it!

I love little pitchers! I especially love to have them on the table for breakfast. I like to keep one in the freezer and fill it with cold milk or juice. I was excited to find these little ones for just .99 cents each! What a deal! I can't wait to make some yummy pancakes when my sister comes and have some cold milk to go along with them!

What Is Your Favorite?

I LOVE this time of year! The leaves are falling in our yard, the weather although still very warm has gone from the high 90's to the high 80's. The kids are back in school starting a fresh new year and the holidays are just around the corner. I LOVE planning for all of the upcoming holidays. When I was a little girl, fall was always my favorite time of year. I am not sure why fall but I think it had everything to do with family. I'm one of six children, I have two amazing sisters and three of the best brothers a girl could ask for. I can remember at Halloween my Mom would always help us create some costume from items we had at home and my oldest brother would take us younger three outside and "teach" us how to trick or treat. He would stand in the house and make me knock (since I was the oldest of the younger three) then he would open the door (that is if I knocked hard enough to meet his standards) and we would all say "trick or treat!" Of course, it was never good enough the first 10 times so we had to keep trying and "learning" how to do it correct! After all we were the Preacher's kids and we needed to know how to beg! LOL! Next, it was Thanksgiving, I don't know why but Thanksgiving as a kid seemed to consume the whole week and cooking Thanksgiving dinner, well that took the entire day and seemed to taste like what a meal in heaven must taste like. We did not have a TV, but during the holidays if there was not much money we would all work small jobs, then we would pile our money together and rent a TV. I can remember what a special time that was having everyone in the living room watching the old Christmas programs and my brothers and Dad watching football. Then came Christmas, oh, how I love everything to do with Christmas. Each year we would get the Sears catalog and my Mom would let us circle items we wanted. If we really wanted something we would circle it a bunch of times. We never got items from that catalog, but it was so much fun dreaming. I can remember my Mom cooking for weeks making treats and candy and planning for a special day. It was always special, even when we were not sure if there were going to be any gifts under the tree, Mom and Dad always figured out a way to get us each something. I can never remember having a disappointing Christmas. I can remember one Christmas hearing my mom in her sewing room working late into the night making us dolls and stuffed animals to sell to raise money. My oldest sister had a huge part in making Christmas special and still does to this day. When I was little we lived in a small town that had a small store, I can remember her taking us younger three to the store to get gifts for each other. You know, as a child, you don't put much value into where the $2 came from, but as I look back now I know she must have worked hard babysitting to give each of us $2 so we could buy gifts for our family. Its only now that I am older that my parents have let out little bits of how they struggled to provide for six kids on a Pastors salary. Mom said often they would not have any gifts until someone would give them a love offering or the church would give them a love offering. Mom said she would go out the next day and try to stretch the money for all of us. The budget was often $25 per child but Mom & Dad always made it feel like so much more. We opened our gifts one at a time and the gift giving often lasted an hour or two. I guess that's why fall is my favorite time of year. Now that I have a family of my own, I enjoy the holidays as much as I did as a child and we are now passing on traditions to our boys and I just bet, one day they will ponder why fall is their favorite time of year too. What is your favorite time of year?
