Camp Supply List

Time is drawing near! Our first born leaves for camp in just a few short hours. I try not to think about it to much because my heart gets heavy. Its so hard letting them go even for just a week! I know he's going to have a fantastic time and I know God has something very special for him this year. No matter what happens we know God is in this trip and we know this is just the first of many steps preparing him to leave home.

The following is a list of supplies we pack for the week of camp. Each year we keep a list and when he returns we update the list and make any necessary changes. We use a large suitcase. When you help them pack it will be very well organized, but when it comes home, not so! Keep it large enough so they can get everything back in when its time to come home. Another thing that we do is put his name on all his supplies. After a kid took his shampoo one year we now mark everything so there is no confusion who it belongs too. We only have boys in our house so sorry girls! If you have girls, I would love for you to post your list!

I Quit!

The other day my cute niece Emily had on a t-shirt that had a picture of a cigarette butt in an ash tray and it said, "Sometimes, its ok to be a quitter!" After a day this week, I decided I would be a quitter too! As we're going into week four without a job I had a day this week where I held myself a really good pity party. Mark received an email to come take a test at a job he worked part time a year ago. They were wanting to hire for a supervisor position and we were really excited about the possibility. Then he realized he can not work for them because he is under a binding contact that he can't work for a competitor for one year! That started my pity party. For a good 8 hours I sulked, I was mad and I did not have a good day! It was not until late that evening that I realized what I had done all day long. What a waste! I sat myself down (well I was actually cleaning the kitchen) and had a good talk with ME! I told myself, "You had a good day focusing on you now its time to put the focus back where it belongs. Just because this job did not come forth does not mean God has stepped of the throne and its empty up there! God is still on the throne and He is still in control." I was pretty harsh on ME! So, today I have decided to be a quitter! I'm quitting my pity party, I'm quitting being mad, I'm quitting the worry, I'm quitting the negativism, I'm quitting the what ifs and I'm quitting focusing on ME! We are going into week four without a job, but its comforting to know God is still in control and we continue to press on.

Luke 12:7
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Deal of the Day @ Food Lion

We wanted to have taco salad for dinner on Thursday (you know using the free Catalina dressing here from a few days ago) evening but I was out of ground beef. I was running errands and decided to go into Food Lion to see if I could get any meat on sale.
The above meat would have cost me $62.15 but I paid $29.64 a savings of $32.51!

I was pleased to find this Tyson chicken on a double mark down plus I had 4/$1.00 off coupons! This chicken would have cost me $22 however, with coupons and double mark down I only paid $6.79 with a savings of $15.21!!! A great deal!!! What are we going to eat using this chicken?

Chicken Alfredo with Broccoli and Tomatoes

Grilled Chicken Strips on a bed of Garden Salad

Grilled Chicken Pita Pockets

I was excited to see the ground beef I needed for Taco Salad on clearance. A few packs that I purchased were a double mark down too! This was would have cost me $26.42 but I only paid $16.13 with a savings of $10.29 and I love it because its the 93% fat free so not a lot of fat to tend with, just meat! How are we going to use this ground beef?

Taco Salad
Meat Loaf
Spaghetti
Hamburgers
I purchased this roast for my Dad who enjoys having a "chunk of meat to nibble on" over the weekend. His Mom and Dad did this when they were older and now he likes to have some too! He cooks it in the crockpot and will "nibble" on it all weekend long! Its a little comfort food and provides him several meals. Enjoy Dad! This was another double mark down.
Its original price was $13.73 marked down to $6.72 a savings of $7.01

Corn on the Cob

I love a good ear of corn on the cob! When my brother was married in Iowa they had corn on the cob at one of the dinners and I can remember me an my friend eating several ears and when we left we craved good ole Iowa corn all the way home! Our corn is not quite that good but non the less, its a treat my family loves! Today Mr. Tom our neighbor gave us a few ears and my mouth started to water as soon as I saw what he had! As much as I was looking forward to having it with our baked chicken this evening, I forgot to put it in the pot! When I was fixing the plates, I saw it! Again, my mouth started to water. I did not want to wait for the water to boil so I decided to try my hand at the good ole microwave! I wrapped the peeled cob in a wet paper towel and placed it in the microwave for 3 minutes. That was the best tasting corn ever (no not as good as Iowa but great for us). No water to tend with, no pot to clean, no heat in the kitchen, just good fresh corn on the cob! It was so yummy! Thanks Mr Tom!
